Privacy Policy

Should I Fish? is a fishing forecast for the Atlantic and Gulf coasts from Virginia to Florida, available as a website (shouldifish.app) and as an iOS and Android app, operated by NewCulture Consulting, LLC (“we”). This policy says what we collect, where it goes, and what we never do. It is written to match how the product actually works, not to cover things it might do someday.

The short version

  • There are no accounts. We do not ask for your name, email, or password.
  • Your location is used once to find the nearest covered town. In the app the coordinates never leave your phone. On the website they are sent to our server for that one lookup and are not stored.
  • Your saved spots, saved days, reminders, and catch log live on your device.
  • We do not run analytics or advertising trackers on the site or in the app.
  • Purchases go through Apple or Google and are managed by RevenueCat. We never see your payment details.

The website

Approximate location. Our host, Vercel, attaches a coarse location (city-level, derived from your IP address) to each request. We use it to pick a nearby town for the forecast widgets. We do not store it.

Precise location. If you tap “Use my location,” your browser asks permission and sends your coordinates to our server once, in the address of a single request, to find the nearest town. The server does not log or keep the coordinates.

Local storage. The town you picked or located is remembered in your browser’s local storage so the site opens on the right spot next time. Nothing else is stored, and we set no cookies.

Server logs. Vercel keeps standard request logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for a short period for security and reliability. We do not use them to identify you.

The app

Location. The app asks for “while using” location permission to find the nearest covered town. The nearest-town calculation runs on your phone against a built-in list of towns. Your coordinates are not sent to us or to anyone else. You can skip this and pick a town by name, and you can revoke the permission at any time in your phone’s settings.

Data stored on your device. Your followed locations, saved fishing days, reminder settings, theme choice, and catch log entries (species, count, time, notes, and a snapshot of the score and conditions at that moment) are stored on your phone. They are not uploaded to us. Deleting the app deletes them. The home-screen widget reads a copy of the current score from the same on-device storage.

Forecast requests. To show a forecast, the app requests a data file for a town from our server. That request carries the town name, not your coordinates, and is subject to the same Vercel logging described above.

Notifications. Reminders for saved days are local notifications scheduled on your phone. We do not operate a push service and do not hold notification tokens. You can decline the notification permission and the app still works.

Purchases. Pro passes and the annual plan are in-app purchases handled by Apple’s App Store or Google Play under their terms. We use RevenueCat to check which purchases are active. RevenueCat assigns your install an anonymous identifier and receives purchase receipts and basic device information (platform, app version) from the store; it does not receive your name or email from us. RevenueCat’s handling of that data is described in its own privacy policy. We do not see or store card numbers.

Forecast data sources

Tide predictions come from NOAA CO-OPS and weather from Open-Meteo. Our server requests that data for each covered town on a schedule. Those requests are about towns, never about you.

Children

The website and app are not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your choices

  • Clear your browser’s site data to remove the remembered town.
  • Delete the app to remove everything it stored on your phone.
  • Turn location or notification permission off in your phone’s settings at any time.
  • Manage or cancel purchases in your App Store or Google Play account.

Changes

If the product starts doing something new with data, this page changes in the same release and the date at the top moves. We will not quietly widen what we collect.
